JAY: yo ppl!
hereh's something ive planned to give to someone for quite some time! ive had this for about almost a year.
i did this in my Spanish II class in May of last year. this tied into a lesson of the Huichol/Wixaritari indian culture. i found this extremely interesting since im of Hispanic/Mexican Culture and found out that i have Wixaritari blood in meh!
im Hispanic btw. . .
a little cultural history:
- this is a type of art known as the Huichol/Wixaritari yarn art.
- their art had symbolic meaning (the sun ment gods, ect.)
- one piece of yarn art took about months to complete.
- some pieces ranged in size, from plate size to table size.
- mediums often used were beads, glass, yarn pressed onto wooden frames.
- art also ranged from flat art to masks to clothing.
so we were told to come up with something; wheather it be a drawing, magazine photo, photo, internet print out, ect. the only thing is that it must have meaning!
so i was looking through some DA member's profile gallery. and i came across 's gallery. and his awesome gallery is full of doodles!
and i got to thinking, i should do something for him, since i hardly talk to him yet wanna maintain a good DA friendship. or maybe he is a victim of my random giveaways!
so i used his ipod sketch ---> [link]
please forgive me, Rehett! i had to change the background a little so that i could have room for the yarn and so everything wouldnt look clustered! D8
i kept it as a secret so i could suprise him with it, but i soon forgot about it when my Sophmore year came to an end. just yesterday i found this on my desk under a pile of papers, old homework, textbooks, Ramune bottles, and art pads.
this took about 2-4 weeks to complete and is completely done with yarn and glue. i completely messed up about halfway though and had to start over.
well. . .hereh it is! SUPRISE, REHETT!!!!
